Russian ship and deep-sea vehicle collide in Norwegian Sea: Details
In the Norwegian Sea, the Russian ship Mikhail Rudnitsky collided with the deep-sea apparatus AS-36 during trials, according to Ukraine's Defence Intelligence.
"On July 1, during trials in the waters of the Norwegian Sea, the modernized Russian deep-sea apparatus AS-36 sustained damage," the report says.
The modernization of the apparatus has been ongoing since 2017 at the Kanonersky Ship Repair Plant in St. Petersburg. The AS-36 was being carried by the rescue ship of the Russian Northern Fleet, Mikhail Rudnitsky.
"During the launch of the deep-sea apparatus into the water, the crew of the Rudnitsky failed to manage the operation, leading to a collision between the ship and the AS-36. As a result of the incident, the Russian deep-sea apparatus sustained damage, preventing further trials," added the Defence Intelligence.
Currently, the Russians are assessing the damage and the time needed to repair the AS-36.
