The Russians have started assembling Shahed kamikaze drones on their territory. It is possible that the occupiers may modernize drones of Iranian design, believes the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yurii Ihnat.

"I don't have information about the endurance and speed (of the Shaheds assembled in Russia - Ed.). The speed of the Shahed can vary. It can fly at speeds between 120 and 180 km/h. It will fly as programmed," he explained.

The spokesperson does not rule out the possibility that Russians may modernize Iranian-designed drones. However, in his opinion, such changes will not be significant.

"They can modernize them slightly, meaning the use of different materials, possibly composite materials to make them harder to detect. Maybe there are some minor aspects that could be modernized. But it's still the same Shahed," Ihnat said.

Background

Ukrainian intelligence reported that the Russians have started manufacturing Shahed drones on their own territory, which they previously purchased from Iran. Furthermore, the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yurii Ihnat, does not rule out the possibility that occupiers may intensify drone attacks during the cold season.

At the end of July, the Head of the United Coordinating Press Center of Security and Defense Forces of the South of Ukraine, Natalia Humeniuk, reported that the Russians had already begun using domestically produced Shahed drones.
