Russian oil depot in Engels burns for fifth day after Ukrainian strike
The oil depot in Engels, Saratov region, Russia, attacked by Ukrainian forces, continues to burn. The fire has been ongoing for the fifth day, according to the governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin.
The governor stated that the process of "controlled fuel combustion" is ongoing at the "industrial enterprise" in Engels. The fire was extinguished for five days, and earlier, a state of emergency was declared in Engels.
"Specialists are taking all necessary measures around the clock to eliminate it. As I mentioned earlier, the amount of smoke, as well as the area of the fire, is decreasing. The latest air samples have also not detected an excess concentration of harmful substances," claims Busargin.
On January 10, he wrote that the fuel combustion process would take "approximately two more days."
Strike on the oil depot in Engels
On the night of January 8, it was loud in Engels, Saratov region, Russia. Residents reported explosions. The Russians immediately claimed a drone attack, a hit on the oil depot, and a severe fire.
That same day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the oil depot in Engels. The Crystal Plant oil storage facility was attacked.
The oil depot supplied fuel to the military airfield Engels-2, where the enemy's strategic aviation, including Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers, is based.
