On January 1, the border areas of the Sumy region came under attack by Russian drones and strike UAVs, according to Oleksandr Seliverstov, head of the Novhorod-Siverskyi District Military Administration, on Facebook.
Oleksandr Seliverstov reported an emergency situation in Semenivka. Since the afternoon, the town has been under attack by Russian drones. The enemy is using FPV drones and Molniya-type strike UAVs.
According to the official, at least four strikes have been recorded in Semenivka. The most serious one occurred at 05:15 PM Kyiv time, hitting a residential apartment building. Windows were shattered, but fortunately, no one was injured.
The head of the administration urged all residents to remain in shelters during air raid alerts and to follow safety measures.
"Russia is a terrorist state," Oleksandr Seliverstov stressed.
Situation in the Sumy region
Russia continues active hostilities near the border of the Sumy region. The enemy is trying to expand the territories under its control and create a so-called "buffer zone" in the border areas of the region.
Shelling of populated areas is recorded regularly. The enemy uses artillery, mortars, multiple launch rocket systems, FPV drones, UAVs, and aerial bombs.
For example, on December 17, a strike in the Kovpakivskyi district of Sumy damaged civilian infrastructure.
