Russian losses in Kursk escalate: Ukraine reports significant captures and casualties
Ukrainian fighters have reported significant Russian losses in the Kursk region, with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) capturing over 700 Russian soldiers, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The report says that since the start of the Kursk operation, Russia has suffered the following losses:
- Total losses: 17,819 soldiers
- Irrecoverable: 6,662
- Wounded: 10,446
- Captured: 711
Additionally, Ukrainian forces have destroyed 45 tanks, 256 armored vehicles, 565 vehicles, 99 artillery systems, and 5 multiple rocket launchers (MRLs).
Situation in the Kursk region
Ukrainian forces have been advancing in the Kursk region for several months. At the end of August, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the AFU had control over 100 settlements and had taken nearly 600 Russian soldiers captive.
The UK Ministry of Defense noted that in August, the Russian army was losing over 1,000 soldiers killed or wounded daily, largely due to pressure on the Pokrovske direction and the AFU’s offensive in the Kursk region.
Recently, Syrskyi visited the Kursk frontline and implemented a series of decisions aimed at preventing Russia from regaining the initiative.
