Russian jet-powered drones of the Geran-5 type can accelerate to speeds of up to 1,000 km/h during certain maneuvers, Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an adviser to the President of Ukraine on defense technologies, said, according to Unian.
"We have recorded cases in which the Geran-5 accelerated to 1,000 kilometers per hour while maneuvering," Beskrestnov said.
According to him, Russia is constantly improving its drones, involving large numbers of engineers and young specialists in their development.
"We are up against Russia’s best engineers. And it’s not just Russia, but China as well," Flash added.
He also emphasized that Chinese engines, antennas, modems, cameras, and other key components have been found in Shahed drones. Beskrestnov added that Chinese engineers are involved in developing certain technical solutions for Russian drones.
It was previously reported that Russian jet-powered drones can travel considerable distances and reach Ukraine’s western regions. Their range depends on their technical specifications, fuel capacity, and onboard equipment.
In addition, the interception rate for enemy jet-powered UAVs can reach 85% in some cases. However, air defense performance is significantly affected by round-the-clock Russian attacks, limited missile supplies, and weather conditions.
