Russian forces won’t reach Donetsk region border for decades, Ukrainian military says

Russia's goal of reaching the administrative borders of Donetsk region remains unattainable for now. Given the enemy's losses and pace of advance, it would take Russia decades to achieve that objective, according to Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Grouping of Troops, during a national TV marathon.
"According to our estimates, it would take them several decades and several million casualties to succeed (in reaching the administrative borders of Donetsk region – ed.). Just look at their progress since 2023 and the losses they've sustained — we're talking about hundreds of thousands of troops. Yes, there is some movement, but it's limited to certain districts within Donetsk region," the spokesperson said.
Trehubov noted that, considering the losses and the rate of Russian advance on the front line, the objective of reaching the Donetsk region's borders is currently unrealistic. However, that does not mean the Russians will stop trying.
"This does not mean that they (Russians - ed.) will not continue to put additional pressure on Ukrainian society with the same shelling of civilian targets. Plus, it does not mean that they will not apply pressure at the diplomatic level, trying to undermine efforts to defend Ukraine," he explained.
Situation at the front
In the past day, 188 combat clashes were recorded on the front. The enemy exerts the most pressure on the Pokrovske, Northern-Slobozhanskyi, and Kursk directions.
Moreover, recently the Russians have intensified efforts to reach the administrative borders of Dnipropetrovsk region.
Despite statements from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the occupiers have not yet managed to consolidate their positions, and fighting continues there.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the so-called "advances" of the Russians in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
