Russian forces strike Pechenihy Reservoir dam in Kharkiv region, traffic fully blocked

The Russian army struck the Pechenihy Reservoir dam in Kharkiv region. Traffic on the dam in the Pechenihy community has been temporarily suspended, according to the Pechenihy village head Oleksandr Husarov on Telegram.
According to official information, as of 12:00 on December 7, 2025, passage along the Pechenihy dam roadway is completely blocked. Authorities urge residents to remain calm and follow further updates.
"We ask everyone to follow safety precautions and refrain from traveling toward the dam," Husarov emphasized.
It is noted that relevant services are assessing the extent of the damage and working to eliminate the consequences of the strike.

Pechenihy Reservoir
The Pechenihy Reservoir covers an area of 86.2 square kilometers, stretches 65 kilometers in length, and ranges from 300 to 3,000 meters in width. Its depth varies from 4.5 to 20 meters, and its drainage basin spans 8,400 square kilometers. The reservoir takes its name from the settlement of Pechenihy, located 60 kilometers from Kharkiv, near which the dam is situated.
The reservoir extends from Pechenihy to the Starytsia River, which flows through the Chuhuiv and Vovchansk districts of Kharkiv region. The area is surrounded by pine forests that form the distinct landscape of this region.
Along its shores lie not only Pechenihy but also a number of other settlements, including Verkhnii and Staryi Saltiv, Prymorske, Bereznyky, Rubizhne, Martova, Metalivka, Khotomlia, Buhayivka, and Molodova.
Energy infrastructure strike
As a reminder, during the night of December 6, Russian forces carried out a large-scale combined strike on energy infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine.
Targets included power generation, distribution, and transmission facilities in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv regions. DTEK thermal power plants in various regions also suffered significant damage.
As a result of the massive attack, Ukraine’s nuclear power plants were forced to reduce electricity production.
Last night, Russian forces again attacked Ukrainian territory, with Kremenchuk in Poltava region being the main target. According to the Air Force, the enemy used 246 aerial weapons.
