Russian forces executed a captured Ukrainian soldier near Myrne in the Volnovakha district, according to the press service of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the report, on July 22, Russian forces attacked the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Myrne. During the combat operation, Russian soldiers captured a Ukrainian defender and executed him.
Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into a criminal case concerning the commission of a war crime resulting in a person's death (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Urgent investigative actions are currently being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify the Russian servicemen involved in committing the crime.
The prosecutor's office emphasized that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a grave international crime.
Executions of Ukrainian servicemen
On July 13, Russian forces executed a captured Ukrainian soldier near the village of Yalta in the Donetsk region.
After conducting an interrogation, one of the Russian soldiers ordered the execution of the Ukrainian serviceman. Another soldier then shot the prisoner of war with a firearm.
Earlier, Russian forces also executed four Ukrainian prisoners of war near the settlement of Veterynarne in the Kharkiv region.
