Since October 2022, Russian forces have carried out over 1,000 strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, causing significant loss of generating capacity, according to Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk.

"Since October 2022, the enemy has inflicted more than a thousand strikes on civilian energy infrastructure facilities. Of course, this affects the resilience of the energy system. Despite this, the largest repair campaign is currently underway. We are focused on restoring the functionality of those energy facilities where repairs are possible," he said.

The Deputy Head of the Ministry of Energy also commented on the statement by Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister Andriy Sybiha, who said that Russia plans to strike critical nuclear energy facilities in Ukraine ahead of winter. Kolisnyk noted that intelligence information on this has already been shared with partners and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"The enemy’s last attack on August 26 showed that they are deliberately targeting facilities and substations that are essential for the operation of nuclear power plants," Kolisnyk added.

On Saturday, September 21, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that the Kremlin is preparing attacks on critical nuclear energy infrastructure in Ukraine ahead of the winter period.

According to him, this refers to the open switchgear of nuclear power plants and transmission substations, which are critical for the safe operation of nuclear energy.

The Head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, called on the world to respond to Russia’s preparations for terrorist attacks, warning that Moscow’s actions could lead to a nuclear catastrophe.
