Europe faces radiation threat: Ukrainian Energy Ministry warns of possible Russian strikes on NPP substations
The Kremlin is preparing to attack Ukraine's nuclear facilities. If this happens, the entire European continent will be under a radiation threat, according to the Telegram of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
“Russia's attacks on critical nuclear power plant substations threaten the radiation safety of the entire European continent,” the statement said.
In this context, the Ministry of Energy urged the IAEA to expedite the deployment of monitoring missions to key substations essential for the operation of nuclear power plants.
What happened before
Today, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, the Kremlin is preparing strikes against critical nuclear energy facilities in Ukraine before winter.
Specifically, this involves open distribution devices at nuclear power plants and transmission substations, which are critical for the safe operation of nuclear energy.
“The damage to these facilities creates a high risk of a nuclear incident that will have global consequences. Ukrainian special services have already passed the relevant information to our partners. The IAEA has also been informed,” emphasized Sybiha.
Yermak called for global response
Later, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, said that the world should react to Russia's preparations for strikes on Ukraine's critical nuclear energy facilities.
He emphasized that this is preparation for a possible nuclear disaster scenario, so it concerns everyone.
“Russia is a terrorist. They need to be stopped here and now. The countries of the West and the Global South must respond harshly to the preparation of terror. It concerns everyone,” Yermak said on his Telegram channel.
