Russian forces attacked Konotop: Hits in city and power outages reported
On the night of September 11 to 12, the Russian army attacked Konotop in the Sumy region. The city experienced several impacts, with casualties reported, according to the city's mayor, Artem Semenikhin.
Initially, Semenikhin reported that the enemy struck the city’s infrastructure, causing a power outage in Konotop.
Upon arriving at the scene of one of the attacks, Semenikhin revealed that the enemy had targeted residential areas in the city center, resulting in casualties.
"We hope that we have managed to evacuate all residents from the building. There are casualties and injuries, but I very much hope that there are no fatalities," the mayor said.
Semenikhin also mentioned a shortage of fire brigades.
"We are currently lacking fire teams. We are deploying fire trucks, including those provided by the Polish, and we are using fire trucks from other cities," the mayor of Konotop explained.
Additionally, he noted that the city is activating backup power sources to ensure water supply to the network, as there is a shortage of water for firefighting.
"We are fully prepared, and people are working," Semenikhin added.
The mayor of Konotop released a new video and announced that information about transportation for evacuating people will be available soon. Meanwhile, decisions are being made regarding whom to evacuate and where they will stay.
"People who have lost their homes will be provided with accommodation and will have a place to stay tonight," Semenikhin noted.
He also mentioned that the water supply issue is being addressed, and generators have been activated.
The mayor commented on the energy situation, emphasizing its complexity. However, he urged residents who need to charge their devices or access the internet to visit the Points of Invincibility that are starting to operate.
