Russian Federation reports drones attacked Afipsky Oil Refinery in Krasnodar Krai
In the Krasnodar region of Russia, explosions were heard overnight into May 2 in the area of the Afipsky settlement, where an oil refinery is located. The cause was reportedly a drone attack on this facility and the operation of air defense systems, according to the Russian Telegram channel Shot.
It is reported that there were three explosions in total, and residents heard the distinctive sound of engines, likely drones, flying in the sky.
It is claimed that the drones were flying towards the oil refinery but were shot down by air defense systems on approach to it, allegedly crashing several kilometers from the plant. Russian propagandists claim that the drones are Ukrainian.
"Witnesses told SHOT that the first explosion over the settlement occurred at 3:10. After that, the sound of the engine in the sky continued, and two more explosions were heard. Preliminarily, the UAVs were flying towards the refinery, but were shot down by air defense systems or landed by electronic warfare means," the post said.
A video allegedly from the scene was also published on social media.
Official data on the destruction and casualties are not available. The local governor has not reported anything about the incident.
Not the first attack on the Afipsky Oil Refinery
The Afipsky refinery has been previously attacked by drones and caught fire as a result of drone strikes, which occurred in October of last year.
According to sources from RBC-Ukraine, the SSU (Security Service of Ukraine) attacked the refinery, and as a result of the special operation, expensive equipment was damaged.
Furthermore, at the end of May 2023, a fire broke out on the territory of the Afipsky refinery due to an attack by an unidentified drone.
