Russian drone crashes in Latvia, investigation underway
Russian drones are falling down not only in Ukraine. In particular, a similar incident occurred in Latvia, according to Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
According to him, a Russian military drone crashed in the eastern part of the country yesterday. As of now, an investigation is underway.
“We are in close contact with our allies,” the president wrote.
Rinkēvičs emphasized that the number of similar incidents on NATO's eastern flank is growing.
"We must address them collectively," he summarized.
Delfi writes that according to the information available to the National Armed Forces (NAF), the drone entered the country's airspace from Belarus.
The commander of the NBS, Lieutenant General Leonīds Kalniņš, told LETA that the unmanned aerial vehicle entered Latvian airspace on Saturday and was immediately spotted.
“We assessed and monitored the situation, how dangerous it was, and whether objects and civilians could be endangered,” Kalniņš said, adding that the decision was made in accordance with the procedure adopted by the NSC and NATO member states.
Today, during the Russian attack on our country, on the night of September 7-8, Russian attack drones violated Romanian airspace.
They were in the sky over the NATO country for almost an hour. In particular, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the drones were over Romania at 02:49 and left the country at 03:41.
