On Saturday, July 6, Romania sent its F-16 fighter jets into the sky because of a Russian drone attack on targets in southern Ukraine, reports the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

This happened after Russian drones were spotted in the morning heading towards the territory of Ukraine, located near the Romanian border.

The agency noted that the Air Police Service had been alerted. Also, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force from the 86th Borca Air Base took off to monitor the air situation.

"Following an alert transmitted by the authorities, at about 7:30 a.m., the Ministry of National Defense issued an order to conduct search operations in the area between the settlements of Vulturul, Mahmudia and Maliuc in case of the presence of objects that fell on the territory of the country," the statement said.

However, the ministry noted that the teams sent to the site did not find anything suspicious.

"The searches will continue throughout the day," the Romanian defense ministry added.

On July 6, the air defense of southern Ukraine destroyed 8 enemy UAVs.
