French police have arrested a 26-year-old Russian citizen after he blew himself up with an explosive device in a hotel room north of Paris, according to Reuters.

According to the source, the man was treated by firefighters after suffering serious burns following the explosion on Monday.

A subsequent search of his room led to the discovery of articles and materials intended for the manufacture of explosive devices.

The source said that the office of the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office of France, which works with France's domestic spy agency, has launched an investigation into a person suspected of participating in a "terrorist conspiracy and bomb plot".

Reuters notes that the man, in addition to Russian citizenship, also has Ukrainian citizenship.
