Russian bombs hit school in Ukraine's Kherson as drones target rescuers during response

On Friday, July 31, Russian forces struck an educational institution in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson with guided aerial bombs. After that, the Russian army attempted to attack emergency responders with drones as they were dealing with the aftermath, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service and the Kherson City Military Administration.
"Russian forces launched a guided bomb attack on an educational institution in Kherson. According to preliminary information, five people were injured — three women and two men," the emergency service said.
The strike caused severe damage to the building, trapping people under the rubble and sparking a fire. The blast wave and shrapnel also damaged six apartment buildings and five private homes.
"Rescuers pulled a man from the rubble and handed him over to medics. While emergency crews were responding to the aftermath of the strike, Russian forces repeatedly attempted to attack them with drones. As a result, a fire broke out in a nearby two-story private house," the emergency service said.

Despite the continued threat of follow-up strikes, firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze.

"Unfortunately, Russian airstrikes on Kherson have become routine. The enemy is cynically destroying civilian infrastructure. Around midday today, the occupiers dropped several guided aerial bombs on the city center. Educational institutions and residential buildings were damaged," the Kherson City Military Administration said.
Officials added that information on the number of casualties is still being clarified.
Earlier on Friday, Russian forces also launched a drone attack on Odesa. The strike damaged infrastructure and an educational institution, leaving several people injured.
