Russian forces carried out a missile strike on a five-story apartment building in Kharkiv today, January 2. The attack destroyed the building.
RBC-Ukraine is publishing an exclusive report from the scene of the strike in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district.
As of 03:42 p.m., at least 16 people have been injured in the Russian attack. One person is in critical condition. Medics have already provided assistance to most of the wounded.
Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov said there is information that people may still be trapped under the rubble. Rescue workers, law enforcement officers, and emergency medical teams are working at the scene.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, preliminary information indicates that the Russian army used two missiles in the attack. He did not specify the type, but Syniehubov said the strike involved ballistic missiles.
"Unfortunately, this is exactly how Russians treat life and people — they continue killing, despite all efforts of the world and, above all, the United States, in the diplomatic process," the President said.
Zelenskyy and Syniehubov also released photos showing the aftermath of the Russian attack.

Russian forces have regularly targeted Kharkiv, as the city is located relatively close to the Russian border. Most often, the Russian army uses drones and guided aerial bombs to strike the city.
The strike on the five-story apartment building in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district was reported at around 02:30 p.m.. Since then, the number of the injured has continued to rise.
