Russian forces launched an attack on Poltava region this evening, October 8. Explosions were heard in the region, according to the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration Filip Pronin, the Ukrainian Air Force, and Suspilne.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian forces launched high-speed targets towards Kremenchuk and Poltava, though the exact nature of the targets was not specified by the military.

Pronin later warned that the region was under attack and urged local residents to go to the shelter.

Suspilne also reported explosions in Poltava and Kremenchuk.

Details of the incident are yet to be revealed.

Pronin said that, according to preliminary information, there were no hits to civilian infrastructure as a result of the attack.

Background

Earlier this evening, the Ukrainian Air Force warned that air defense systems might be activated in Poltava region due to the presence of an enemy reconnaissance drone. These drones are often used by the Russian army to prepare missile strikes.

On the night of September 22, Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in Poltava region using drones.

As a result, 56 household and 30 legal consumers were left without electricity.
