The Russian army has used chemical substances in the war against Ukraine. Since the start of the full-scale war, the enemy has poisoned more than 2,000 Ukrainian defenders, states Artem Vlasiuk, Head of the Department of Environmental Safety and Civil Protection at the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Directorate of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a briefing.

"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 2,000 servicemen with varying degrees of poisoning from unknown or known chemical substances have been directed to medical institutions, both military and general medical facilities in Ukraine," said Vlasшuk.

According to him, this includes poisoning by tear gas substances such as CS and CN, which are used in grenades for riot control.

"As for the soldiers who have died, unfortunately, we currently have three such fatalities," he clarified.

Earlier, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) found that Russia had used CS substance in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The Director-General of the OPCW, Fernando Arias, expressed "deep concern" over Russia's use of chemical weapons.
