In the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol, the Russian forces are expanding their military presence. In particular, two new military bases appeared in the city during March and April, according to the Telegram channel of Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for the Study of Occupation.

According to him, a new military base has appeared in the northwestern part of the Kalmiuskyi district. It serves as a logistics hub located in the Livoberezhnyi district, near the Skhidnyi residential neighborhood.

Andriushchenko noted that the second base is of particular interest.

“Firstly, because its establishment is the result of the need to expand an existing nearby base, which is mainly used for parking fuel tankers and trucks carrying ammunition en route to or from the Zaporizhzhia region. The new base serves a different purpose. It is mainly used to station personnel and equipment. Notably, there are increased camouflage measures in place,” he explained.

According to Andriushchenko, the trend of strengthening the Russian military presence in Mariupol began at the start of the year. He emphasized that this is not a coincidence, but a deliberate transformation of the city into a major and fully functioning logistics and military stronghold — not only for cargo, but also for equipment and personnel, with an extensive network of parking areas, repair bases, and permanent and temporary deployment points for the Russian army. This is facilitated by the development of railway and port infrastructure.

“That’s why we are confident that in the near future, we will be able to confirm the military use of the Mariupol-Sortuvalna (Sorting), Mariupol-Holovnyi (Main), and Mariupol-Port railway stations, as well as the Mariupol port itself,” Andriushchenko added.

Situation in Mariupol

In March, we reported that partisans set fire to a Russian base in Mariupol, destroying several vehicles.

It was also recently reported that the Russian authorities are confiscating thousands of apartments from property owners in occupied Mariupol who fled the city after the start of the full-scale invasion.
