Russian army aims to seize a foothold in Kherson region - Ukraine's Forces

The Russian army is amassing assault groups on the left bank of the Kherson region, likely intending to seize a foothold in the island zone, states the spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn.
"There is information that the enemy is trying to concentrate a certain number of forces and assets, not for crossing water obstacles, since those would be insufficient, but to conduct so-called reconnaissance and search operations or attempts to cross in small landing groups and seize a foothold in the island zone," Voloshyn said.
He clarified that it is unlikely the Russian troops will manage to cross to the right bank of the Kherson region. However, securing a foothold in the island zone would allow them to "exert influence" on the Defense Forces and maintain control over the Dnipro River and the surrounding straits.
Voloshyn also noted that the Russian forces are intensifying strikes on the right bank. They are mainly using kamikaze drones and artillery, while Russian aircraft frequently target the right bank with air-dropped bombs.
Russia’s new tactic
The head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, previously stated that Russia has changed its shelling tactics in the Kherson region.
Over the past week, the enemy has first dropped aerial bombs and then shelled the same area with artillery.
He explained that, given this new tactic, local residents should not leave shelters immediately after the first strike.
