Russian agent charged in Poland over plot to assassinate Ukraine's President Zelenskyy

A man suspected of involvement in a plot to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will stand trial in Poland, Reuters reports.
The suspect, Pawel K., was detained in April 2024 as a result of cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian prosecutors. He now faces up to eight years in prison.
Polish prosecutors say the suspect expressed willingness to act on behalf of Russian military intelligence and established contacts with Russians directly involved in the war against Ukraine.
"The activities were to help, among other things, in the planning by the Russian special services of a possible assassination attempt on the life of ... the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
According to prosecutors, Pawel K.'s suspected tasks included collecting and providing information about security at the Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport in southeastern Poland.
That airport is a key logistical hub for the delivery of military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Assassination attempts on Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously confirmed that there were assassination attempts against him at the beginning of the full-scale war.
According to him, during one of those attempts, several people were killed inside the Presidential Office building.
