Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of November 20
Ukrainian Defense Forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, advance in the Melitopol direction, and maintain defense in the Avdiivka area. Over the past 24 hours, there have been 46 combat clashes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
In the past day, Russian occupiers carried out an aerial strike on Ukraine, using the Shahed-136/131 combat UAVs. As a result of air defense efforts, 15 out of 20 combat UAVs were destroyed.
The enemy delivered 1 missile strike and 17 aerial attacks, launching 94 barrages from rocket artillery systems on the positions of our troops and civilian settlements.
Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered damage and destruction.
Aerial strikes targeted: Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region; Serebryanske forestry in the Luhansk region; and Yampolivka in the Donetsk region.
Over 100 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
The frontline situation
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group North in the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the transfer of Ukrainian forces to threatening directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Khortytsia in the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted assault operations in the areas of Synkivka, east of Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, where the defense forces repelled 7 attacks.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.
In the Bakhmut direction, the adversary conducted assault operations in the areas of Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where our defenders repelled 11 attacks. Ukrainian Defense Forces continue assault actions south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting losses on the enemy in personnel and equipment, and consolidating their positions at achieved lines.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Tavria on the Avdiivka direction, the occupiers continue their attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers steadfastly hold the defense, inflicting significant losses on the enemy. The adversary's offensive actions were unsuccessful east of Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, Severne, and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region, where 12 attacks were repelled by the Defense Forces.
In the Maryinka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, and Pobeda in the Donetsk region, where Ukrainian soldiers repelled 16 attacks.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the invaders conducted assault actions near Staryi Mykhailivka in the Donetsk region but had no success.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue the offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, inflicting losses on the occupation forces in personnel and equipment, wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Odesa in the Kherson direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold the occupied positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, engage in counter-battery combat, and deliver fire strikes on the enemy's rear.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces conducted 2 strikes on areas with a concentration of enemy personnel.
Units of missile forces targeted 2 areas with a concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, as well as 3 enemy ammunition depots.
