Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of November 16

The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their assault operations south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, conducting an offensive operation in the Melitopol direction and maintaining defense in the Avdiivka area. In the past 24 hours, there have been 65 combat clashes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
In the past 24 hours, Russian terrorist forces have carried out additional missile strikes on civilian objects in Selydove, Donetsk region, and Zarychne, Zaporizhzhia region. Additionally, overnight, occupiers once again launched further missile and aviation strikes on Ukraine, including an ongoing attack involving Shahed-136/131 UAVs.
Overall, the enemy conducted 8 missile and 29 aviation strikes, unleashing 76 artillery barrages from multiple rocket launchers on the positions of our forces and civilian areas.
Unfortunately, as a result of the Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
Aviation strikes targeted: Krasnyi Khutir in the Chernihiv region; Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region; Spirne, Klischiivka, Oleksandrivka, Novomykhailivka, and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.
Over 160 populated areas in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
The frontline situation
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group North in the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, actively engages in sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our forces to critical directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Khortytsia in the Kupyansk direction, the enemy conducted assault operations in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, where our forces repelled 7 attacks.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault operations in the area of Nadiia in the Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy launched assault operations in the areas of Klischiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where our defenders repelled 6 attacks. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting losses on the enemy in personnel and equipment, and consolidating their positions at the achieved frontlines.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Tavria in the Avdiivka direction, the enemy persists in attempting to encircle Avdiivka. Our forces resiliently hold their defensive positions, inflicting significant losses on the aggressors. The enemy's offensive actions in the areas of Novokalynove, Avdiivka, and east of Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful, as Ukrainian forces repelled 18 attacks.
In the Maryinka direction, our defenders repelled 22 enemy attacks in the areas of Marinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtar direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault operations in the areas of Prechystivka and Staryi Mayorsk in the Donetsk region, where the Defense Forces thwarted 6 attacks.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted assault operations near Novodarivka in the Zaporizhzhia region but did not achieve success.
Simultaneously, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, inflicting losses on occupying forces in personnel and equipment, and wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Odesa in the Kherson direction, Ukrainian Forces engage in counter-battery combat, delivering fire strikes on the enemy's rear positions.
Enemy losses
During the past 24 hours, the Defense Forces aviation conducted 10 strikes on areas with concentrations of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, and an additional 3 strikes targeted enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.
Rocket forces units inflicted damage on 2 areas with concentrations of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, destroying 13 artillery units, an ammunition depot, and an enemy air defense system.
