Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 29

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports that in the Bakhmut direction, our defenders repelled over 10 enemy attacks and continue to hold their ground in the Avdiivka direction. Ukrainian Armed Forces are advancing on the Melitopol direction.
Russian shelling
The Russian Federation continues to disregard the laws and norms of warfare, employing terror tactics, launching rocket and aerial strikes, and shelling with multiple rocket launchers not only on military positions but also on civilian targets in our country.
Over the past day, there have been approximately 70 military clashes. In total, the enemy conducted 7 missile and 24 aerial strikes, along with 30 shelling attacks with multiple rocket launchers on our military positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there have been casualties among the civilian population, and private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
Aerial strikes occurred in:
- Synkivka, Kharkiv region
- Bilohorivka, Luhansk region
- Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Staromaiorske, Donetsk region
- Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Novodanylivka, Zaporizhia region
- Beryslav, Novoberyslav, Kozatske, Odradokamianka, Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Kherson region
Over 110 populated areas in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions have been under to artillery fire.
Frontline situation
The operational situation remains relatively unchanged in the Volyn and Polissia directions.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas and conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the repositioning of our troops to critical directions. They are increasing the density of mines and explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy's storming efforts in the areas of the populated settlements Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region were unsuccessful, and our defenders repelled five enemy attacks.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (storming) actions and continued troop repositioning.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled enemy attacks in the area of Khromove in the Donetsk region. The enemy also unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost positions near Klishchiivka and Andriivka. Our defenders repelled over 10 enemy attacks in this area. Ukrainian defensive forces continue offensive operations south of Bkahmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting losses on the enemy in personnel and equipment and consolidating their positions.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy persists in attempting to encircle Avdiivka, but our troops are holding the line firmly, inflicting significant losses on the occupiers. The enemy's offensive actions in the areas of Keramik, Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, and Opytne in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful, with over 15 enemy attacks repelled.
In the Maryinka direction, the invaders conducted unsuccessful storming operations in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where Ukrainian troops repelled over 20 enemy attacks.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders repelled all enemy attacks near Zolota Nyva and Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy attempted to regain lost positions west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region but was unsuccessful.
Advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, inflicting losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment and exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.
In the Kherson direction, Ukrainian troops conduct counter-battery warfare and inflict fire damage on the enemy's rear areas.
Enemy losses
Over the past day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' aviation conducted 5 strikes on the areas of enemy personnel, equipment, and military technology concentration. Additionally, using Ukrainian air defense means, three ground-based Iskander-K cruise missiles were destroyed.
