Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of September 17

Ukrainian military forces successfully repelled Russian attacks in the areas of Klishiivka and Bila Hora in the Donetsk region. Additionally, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operations in the Melitopol and Bakhmut directions, reports the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russians' attacks
Russia launched another attack on Ukraine using air-launched cruise missiles and strike UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type. As a result of the defensive operations by the air defense forces, 6 cruise missiles and 6 Shahed UAVs were successfully intercepted and neutralized.
In total, the enemy conducted 15 missile strikes and 44 airstrikes, along with 35 artillery barrages using multiple rocket launch systems against the positions of Ukrainian forces and civilian settlements.
The frontline situation
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains complex, with 25 military clashes reported over the past day.
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains relatively stable, with no significant changes reported. There are no signs of aggressive troop concentrations. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces continue their tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains a military presence in border regions and continues shelling civilian settlements from Russian territory. They have conducted aviation strikes in the areas of the populated settlements of Horky, Pavlivka, and Popivka in the Sumy region.
More than 20 populated settlements, including Halahanivka, Hremyach in the Chernihiv region, Seredyna-Buda, Koreneok, Volfyne, Myropillya, Velyka Pysarivka in the Sumy region, and Ivashky, Kozacha Lopan, Nesterne, Kamianka in Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kupiansk direction, the adversary conducted an aviation strike near Nadiya in the Luhansk region. They shelled the populated settlements of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kyslivka, Tabayivka, and Krokhlalne in the Kharkiv region with artillery and mortars.
In the Lyman direction, the adversary did not engage in offensive (assault) actions. Areas near the populated settlements of Terni, Torske in Siversk, and Vesele in the Donetsk region were subjected to aviation strikes. More than 10 populated settlements, including Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Zarichne, Torske, Serebryanka, Verkhniokamyanske, Vesele in the Donetsk region, suffered from artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled five enemy attacks in the vicinity of Klishchiivka and Bila Hora in the Donetsk region. The adversary attempted to regain lost positions near Andriivka in the Donetsk region. They conducted aviation strikes near Andriivka and New York in the Donetsk region.
More than 15 populated settlements, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Druzhba, and Zalizne in Donetsk Oblast, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, the adversary's offensive actions in the area of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful. An aviation strike was also carried out in this area. Approximately 10 populated settlements, including Keramik, Stepove, Orlivka, Avdiivka, Severne, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled nearly 10 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Mariinka during the day. The adversary conducted aviation strikes in the area of Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where artillery and mortar shelling from the enemy had not ceased.
Populated settlements such as Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region were under the fire of the occupiers.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy carried out an aviation strike near Staramaiorske in the Donetsk region. Artillery and mortar shelling affected Vodiane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Blahodatne, Urozhaine, and Staramaiorske in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Verbove, Robotyne, and Novodanylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 15 populated settlements, including Olhivske, Chervone, Huliaypole, Charivne, Novoandriivka, and Kamyanske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the adversary carried out aviation strikes near Odradokamianka and Mykolaivka in the Kherson region. Approximately 10 populated settlements, including Novovoroncovka, Kachkariivka, Berislav, Lvove, and Kizomys in the Kherson region, were exposed to enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Offensive by Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Ukrainian defense forces are continuing their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction and carrying out offensive (assault) actions in the Bakhmut direction. They are successfully eliminating the enemy and gradually liberating the occupied territories.
Russians' losses
Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian defense aviation conducted nine strikes on areas where the enemy's personnel, weaponry, and military equipment were concentrated.
Rocket troops successfully targeted two anti-aircraft missile systems, nine artillery pieces, one ammunition depot, and an enemy electronic warfare station.
