Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of August 31

Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, consolidating their positions on achieved lines and conducting counter-battery measures. Over the past 24 hours, more than 40 combat clashes have occurred, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Enemy attacks
During the past day, the Russian Federation carried out another missile and aviation strike on Ukrainian territory, utilizing air-based missiles and Iranian strike drones Shahed-136/131. As a result of successful combat operations by the Air Defense Forces, in coordination with the Air Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 28 cruise missiles and 15 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs were destroyed.
Throughout the past day, the enemy conducted 31 missile and 66 aviation strikes, as well as 53 artillery shelling attacks on positions of our troops and civilian settlements using multiple rocket launch systems. Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have also suffered damage.
The probability of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively stable.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary carried out aerial strikes in the areas of Wolfino in the Sumy region and Potohonove in the Kharkiv region. They conducted mortar and artillery shelling on more than 25 populated areas, including Karpovychi, Semenivka in the Chernihiv region, Stara Huta, Hudove, Obody, Khotin, Volodymyrivka, Popivka in Sumy region, and Hatysche, Vovchansky Khutory, Hryhorivka, Odradne, Dvorichanske in Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted aerial strikes in the area of Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region. The settlements of Masiutivka, Synkivka, Kucheriivka, Kyslivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the adversary.
In the Lyman direction, the adversary conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas of Novoehorivka and Bilohorivka. They carried out aerial strikes in the regions of Nadiia, Tverdokhlibove, Novoehorivka, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, as well as Serebryanka and Spirne in the Donetsk region. Enemy artillery and mortar shelling targeted the settlements of Kreminna in the Luhansk region and Kuzmine, Torske, and Lyman in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the adversary conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the areas of Klishchiivka and Kurdiumivka. They delivered aerial strikes in the regions of Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. Over 20 populated areas, including Zaliznianske, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Bila Hora, Druzhba, and Shcherbynivka in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted artillery and mortar shelling on the populated areas of Keramik, Orlivka, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to restrain the advance of Russian troops in the Maryinka area of the Donetsk region. Artillery shelling affected populated areas like Krasnohorivka, Pobieda, Antonivka, Novomykhailivka, and Vodiane in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders successfully repelled attacks by Russian forces in the Staromykhailivka area of the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out aerial strikes in the regions of Vuhledar and Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region. The following populated areas in the Donetsk region suffered from enemy artillery shelling: Novoukrainka, Shakhtarsk, Blahodatne, Neskuchne, Urozhaine, and Novopil.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy's unsuccessful offensive actions were observed in the Verbove area of the Zaporizhzhia region. Aerial strikes targeted areas like Novodarivka, Verbove, Mala Tokmachka, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 30 populated areas, including Temirivka, Chervone, Huliaypilske, Mali Shcherbaky, Kamianske, and Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Kherson direction, more than 25 populated areas, including Mykhailivka, Novoberyslav, Mykolaivka, Tokarivka, Dniprovsky, and Stanislav in the Kherson region, suffered from enemy artillery shelling.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the Defense Forces' aviation conducted 10 strikes on areas with enemy personnel concentration and 4 strikes on the enemy's anti-aircraft missile complexes.
Units of missile troops and artillery during the past day targeted 1 area with enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentration, 1 command post, and 1 electronic warfare station of the enemy.
