Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of August 28

The Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, consolidating their positions at the achieved frontlines and conducting counter-battery actions. Over the past day, there have been 34 combat engagements, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
During the past day, the enemy launched another missile strike on Ukrainian territory. Four cruise missiles were destroyed by the air defense.
In total, during the past day, the enemy carried out 11 missile and 48 aviation strikes, as well as 54 shelling incidents from multiple launch rocket systems against the positions of our troops and civilian settlements. Unfortunately, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population due to Russian terrorist attacks. Residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
The possibility of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, there have been no significant changes in the operational situation.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Volfyne in the Sumy region and Okip in the Kharkiv region. They conducted mortar and artillery shelling of more than 30 settlements, including Khrinivka, Klyusy, Liskivshchyna, Hremiach, Kamin of Chernihiv region; Khodyne, Kostiantynivka, Turia, Novodmytrivka, Hrabovske, Velyka Pysarivka in the Sumy region, and Veterynarne, Krasne, Ohirtseve, Budarky, Kolodiazne in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Nadiya and Tverdokhlibove in the Luhansk region. Settlements such as Kamyanka, Dvorichna, Synkivka, Ivanivka, Kyslivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy's attempts to advance in the Novoehorivka area in the Luhansk region were unsuccessful. Settlements including Karmazynivka, Nevske, Chervonopopivka, Kreminna, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Dibrova, Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region were subjected to artillery shelling by the enemy.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy's attempts to advance in the Klishchiivka area in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful. More than 15 settlements, including Minkivka, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, Mykolaivka, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, more than 10 settlements, including Ocheretyne, Stepove, Avdiivka, Severne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, the defense forces continue to contain the Russian troops' advance in the Maryinka area of the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region. Settlements including Krasnohorivka, Hostre, Maryinka, Katerynivka, Paraskoviivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region were subjected to artillery shelling by the enemy.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Zolota Nyva and Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region. Settlements including Bohoyavlenka, Shakhtarske, Vremivka, Staromaiorske, and Rivnopil in the Donetsk region were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Novodanylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 25 settlements, including Malynivka, Charivne, Shcherbaky, Stepove, and Lukianivske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Mykolaivka, Mykilske, and Antonivka in the Kherson region. More than 15 settlements, including Beryslav, Mykolaivka, Lvove, Molodizhne, Dniprovske, and Berehove in the Kherson region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
Enemy losses
During the past day, Ukrainian defense aviation conducted 10 strikes on enemy personnel concentration areas and 1 strike on enemy anti-aircraft missile complexes.
Units of artillery and missile forces inflicted damage during the past day on 1 ammunition depot, 2 radio-electronic warfare stations, and 4 artillery systems at enemy firing positions.
