Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of August 26

Over the past day, more than 40 armed clashes have occurred. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are advancing and consolidating their positions on the achieved front lines in the Melitopol direction, states the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Facebook page.
Enemy attacks
Over the past day, the enemy launched 2 missiles and 62 aviation strikes and conducted 89 shelling attacks with multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas.
As a result of successful combat operations by the Air Force, 2 Kalibr cruise missiles and 4 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs were destroyed.
Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
The likelihood of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy carried out an aviation strike in the vicinity of Udy in the Kharkiv region. They conducted artillery and mortar shelling of more than 25 populated areas, including Liskivschyna, Bohdanove in the Chernihiv region; Seredyna-Buda, Kucherivka, Khodyne, Stepne, Myropilske in the Sumy region; and Zybine, Okhrimivka, Varvariivka, Hrachivka, Ambarne in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched aviation strikes in the areas of Kyslivka and Pisky in the Kharkiv region. Population centers such as Hryanykivka, Synkivka, Kupiansk, and Orlyanske in the Kharkiv region were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas of Novoehorivka and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region. They carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Shyikivka, Cherneshchyna, Chervonyi Stav in the Kharkiv region, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, Yamol in the Luhansk region, and Spirne, Vesele in the Donetsk region.
More than 30 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Sviato-Pokrovsk, Zvanivka, Vyimka, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, were subjected to enemy artillery shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas of Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Ivanivske, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. More than 25 populated areas were affected by enemy artillery shelling, including Kurdiumivka, Bila Hora, Dyliivka, Oleksandro-Shultine, Druzhba in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the area of Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. Artillery shelling affected populated areas Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Severne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to contain the Russian forces' advance in the Maryinka area of the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region. Artillery shelling affected populated areas of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Kurakhove, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka, and Hostre in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders successfully repelled Russian forces' attacks in the area of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Vuhledar, Vremivka, Blahodatne, Staromykhailivka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region.
From enemy artillery shelling, more than 10 populated areas were affected, including Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Urozhaine, Rivnopil, Blahodatne, Pryvilne, and Buralatske in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Malaya Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Novodanylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 populated areas, including Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Huliaipilske, Charivne, Lukianivske, and Plavne in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by artillery shelling.
In the Kherson direction, populated areas Khreshchenivka, Olhivka, Mykilske, Kherson, Dniprovske, and Kizomys in the Kherson region were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
Offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, consolidate their positions at the achieved lines, and conduct counter-battery measures.
Enemy losses
During the day, the Air Force of the Defense Forces carried out 12 strikes on areas with a concentration of personnel and 1 strike on an anti-aircraft missile system of the enemy.
Units of missile troops and artillery hit 1 anti-aircraft missile system and 3 artillery pieces at the enemy's firing positions during the day.
