Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of August 24

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the direction of Melitopol, consolidate their positions at the achieved lines, and conduct counter-battery measures. In total, there were 23 combat clashes during the day, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
Last night, Russia launched a missile strike on the city of Dnipro. Information regarding the consequences of this terrorist attack is currently being clarified.
During the past 24 hours, the enemy conducted 10 missiles and 57 aerial strikes and carried out 70 shelling attacks with rocket artillery on our troops' positions and civilian areas.
Furthermore, the occupiers once again attacked Ukrainian territory, using UAVs Shahed-136/131. Our air defense destroyed 12 enemy UAVs. Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings, port infrastructure, schools, and other civilian infrastructure have also been damaged.
The probability of missile and aerial strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Romny, Kostiantynivka in the Sumy region, as well as Dovzhik, Chuhunivka in the Kharkiv region. They carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 15 populated areas, including Bleshnia in the Chernihiv region; Volfyne, Kyndrativka, Veselivka in the Sumy region, and Ohyrtseve, Hatysche, Krasnyi Yar in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Novoyehorivka in the Luhansk region. They also did aviation strikes in the areas of Shyykivka in the Kharkiv region and Tverdokhlybove in the Luhansk region. Artillery and mortar shelling from the enemy-affected populated areas such as Dvorichna, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka, Tabaiivka, Krokhmalne, Pishchane in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, more than 30 populated areas, including Nevseke, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Vyiimka, Zvanivka, Rozdolivka, Fedorivka in the Donetsk region, were subjected to enemy artillery shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Vesele in the Donetsk region. They delivered aviation strikes in the areas of Spyrne, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and Bilohora in the Donetsk region. More than 25 populated areas, including Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Stupochky, Bilohora, Dyliivka, and Kurdiumivka in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled attacks by Russian forces in the Avdiivka area. More than 15 populated areas, including Keramik, Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Solovyove, Stepove, and Orlivka in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back the Russian advance in the areas of Mariinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy delivered an aviation strike in the Krasnohorivka area of the Donetsk region. Populated areas such as Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Oleksandrivka, Kurakhove, Antonivka, and Yelizavetivka in the Donetsk region were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy delivered an aviation strike in the Blahodatne area of the Donetsk region. More than 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Shakhtarsk, Vremivka, Blahodatne, Urozhaine, and Novopil in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Mala Tokmachka in the Zaporizhia region. They did aviation strikes in the areas of Orikhove, Novodanilivka, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 populated areas, including Yehorivka, Chervona Krynytsia, Orikhiv, Novodanilivka, Robotyne, and Ilchenkove in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy delivered aviation strikes in the areas of Berislav, Odradokamianka, Lvovyi, Kherson in the Kherson region, and Izmail in the Odesa region. Populated areas such as Oskorivka, Zolota Balka, Mykhailivka, Respublikanets, Burhunka in the Kherson region, and the city of Kherson were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the aviation of the defense forces conducted 2 strikes on command posts, 9 strikes on areas of personnel concentration, and 4 strikes on enemy air defense missile systems.
Units of the missile troops and artillery during the day hit 2 command posts, 1 area of personnel concentration, weapons, and military equipment, and 2 artillery systems in enemy firing positions.
