Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of August 22

Ukrainian Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction. Over the past day, there have been approximately 30 clashes, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces have targeted and damaged four enemy command posts, says the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Facebook page.
Enemy attacks
During the past day, the enemy carried out 2 missile and 43 aviation strikes, as well as conducted 45 rocket artillery shelling attacks on our troops' positions and populated areas.
Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have also been damaged.
The likelihood of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy conducted mortar and artillery shelling on more than 20 populated areas, including Klyusy, Bleshnia, and Karpovychi in Chernihiv region; Sidorivka, Volfyne, Krasnopillia, Grabovske, and Popivka in Sumy region, as well as Chervona Zoria, Veternarne, Kozacha Lopan, and Strilecha in Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the settlements of Dvorichna, Synkivka, Kyslivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted aerial strikes in the areas of Tverdokhlibove, Torske, Bilohorivka, and Serebriansky Forest in the Luhansk region. Approximately 15 populated areas, including Karmazynivka, Nevske, Kreminna, and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Rozdolivka and Spirne in the Donetsk region, were subjected to enemy artillery shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy's attempts at advancing in the area of Klischiivka in the Donetsk region were unsuccessful. The enemy conducted aerial strikes in the areas of Vesele, Pryvilnia, and Kurdiumivka in the Donetsk region. Over 20 populated areas, including Pryvilnia, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Markove, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, and Klischiivka in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the advance of Russian forces in the Avdiivka area in the Donetsk region under intense enemy aviation and artillery fire. Populated areas such as Oleksandrivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, Severne, Pervomaiske, Nevelske in the Donetsk region were shelled by enemy artillery.
In the Mariupol direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian forces' advance in the areas of Mariinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted aerial strikes in the areas of Mariinka and Novomykhailivka. Populated areas such as Zhelanne Druhe, Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Pobieda, Yelizavetivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region were subjected to enemy artillery shelling.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy conducted an aerial strike in the area of Staramaiorske in the Donetsk region. Populated areas like Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Novoukrainka, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy carried out aerial strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 30 populated areas, including Huliaypilske, Charivne, Yehorivka, Stepove, Lobkove, and Piatykhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted aerial strikes in the areas of Tomaryne, Dach, and Zymivnyk in the Kherson region. More than 25 populated areas, including Novovorontsovske, Zolota Balka, Mykilske, Kherson, Kyzomys, Sofiivka in the Kherson region, and Ochakiv and Solonchaky in Mykolaiv region, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, consolidate their positions, and carry out counter-battery measures.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the defense aviation conducted 6 strikes on enemy personnel concentration areas.
Units of missile troops and artillery targeted and hit 4 command posts, 1 personnel concentration area, weaponry, military equipment, and 3 artillery pieces in enemy firing positions.
