Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 22

Over the past 24 hours, on January 21, 154 combat engagements took place along the front line. Russian forces were most active in assault operations in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, yesterday the enemy carried out two missile strikes and 84 air strikes against the positions of Ukrainian units and populated areas, using two missiles and dropping 197 guided aerial bombs.
In addition, 6,183 kamikaze drones were deployed, and 3,552 attacks were carried out against the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas, including 21 from multiple launch rocket systems.
The aggressor also conducted air strikes, in particular in the areas of the settlements of Velykomykhailivka and Kolomiitsi in the Dnipropetrovsk region; Ternuvate, Verkhnia Tersa, Zaliznychne, Vozdvyzhivka, Yuliivka, Rozumivka, Huliaipole, and Huliaipilske in the Zaporizhzhia region; and Sadove in the Kherson region.
At the same time, the aviation, missile forces, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck four areas of concentration of enemy personnel and equipment, one air defense system, and one enemy command post.
Situation on the frontlines
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, over the past day, Russian forces carried out 72 attacks on populated areas and the positions of our troops.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, our forces repelled seven attacks by Russian forces in the areas of the settlements of Dvorichanske and Izbytske, as well as toward Hrafske, Kruhlyi, and Kutkivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, eight Russian attacks occurred yesterday. Ukrainian defenders repelled assaults on the settlements of Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Kurylivka, and Bohuslavka.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked seven times, attempting to break into our defenses in the settlements of Novomykhailivka, Drobyshcheve, Yampil, and toward Dibrova, Lyman, and Novoserhiivka.
In the Sloviansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled two Russian attacks in the area of the settlement of Dronivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian units repelled a Russian attack near Stupochky.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces carried out 10 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, and Sofiivka, as well as toward Kostiantynivka and Ivanopillia.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 38 assault actions by Russian forces in the areas of the settlements of Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and Filiia, as well as toward Bilytske, Ivanivka, Serhiivka, and Novopidhordne.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Russian forces carried out eight attacks yesterday in the areas of Zlahoda and Yehorivka, and toward Sosnivka and Nove Zaporizhzhia.
In the Huliaipole direction, the Defense Forces repelled 36 attacks by Russian forces in the areas of Huliaipole and Solodke, as well as toward Dobropillia, Zelene, Pryluky, Varvarivka, and Sviatopetrivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, no combat engagements were recorded.
In the Prydniprovske direction, Russian forces unsuccessfully attempted twice to improve their position.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of Russian forces forming offensive groupings were detected.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost approximately 1,230,810 military personnel.
In particular, over the past day, Russian forces lost 1,070 personnel.
Ukrainian forces also neutralised nine tanks, five armored combat vehicles, 53 artillery systems, two multiple launch rocket systems, three air defense systems, 669 operational and tactical-level unmanned aerial vehicles, and 178 units of automotive equipment.
