Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 21

Over the past day, January 20, 110 combat clashes took place along the front line. Russian forces were most active in assaults in the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka directions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
According to the General Staff, yesterday the enemy carried out five missile strikes and 74 air strikes on positions of Ukrainian units and populated areas, using 39 missiles and dropping 184 guided aerial bombs.
In addition, 7,754 kamikaze drones were used to strike targets, and 3,814 shelling attacks were carried out against positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas, including 44 from multiple launch rocket systems.
The aggressor conducted air strikes, in particular, on areas of the settlements of Bilopillia in the Sumy region; Velykomykhailivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region; Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Luhivske, Vozdvyzhenka, Hirske, Huliaipilske, Sviatopetrivka, Verkhniа Tersa, Barvinivka, and Rizdvianka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Aviation, missile forces, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck six areas of concentration of enemy personnel and one UAV control point.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out 82 artillery attacks over the past day.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 11 enemy attacks in the area of Vovchansk and toward the settlements of Izbytske, Hrafske, Kruhle, Nesterne, and Chuhunivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, three Russian attacks occurred yesterday. Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy assaults on Pishchane and Petropavlivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 11 times, attempting to break into Ukrainian defenses toward the settlements of Tverdokhlibove, Stavky, Dibrоva, and Olhivka.
In the Sloviansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks in the Dronivka area.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian units repelled one enemy attack toward Bondarne.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy carried out 14 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Predtechyne, Ivanopillia, Pleshchiivka, and Shcherbynivka, as well as toward Illinivka, Stepanivka, Berestok, Novopavlivka, and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 36 enemy assault actions in the areas of the settlements of Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and Dachne toward Novopavlivka.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy carried out one attack yesterday toward Nove Zaporizhzhia.
In the Huliaipole direction, the Defense Forces repelled nine Russian attacks in the area of Huliaipole and toward Dobropillia and Zelene.
In the Orikhiv direction, two combat clashes took place in the areas of Stepnohirsk and Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive group formations were detected.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost approximately 1,229,740 military personnel.
In particular, over the past day, Russia has suffered 1,170 personnel losses.
Ukrainian forces also destroyed eight tanks, 10 armored combat vehicles, 70 artillery systems, three multiple launch rocket systems, 1,019 operational-tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, 27 missiles, 171 units of automotive equipment, and one unit of special equipment.
