Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 18

As of 4 pm on January 18, sixty-nine combat engagements had occurred along the front, with the Pokrovsk direction remaining the most active, where Ukrainian defense forces repelled 28 assaults, according to the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian attacks
The General Staff informed that the enemy artillery fire hit the communities of the Budky, Ryzhivka, and Bezsalivka settlements in the Sumy region.
Frontline situation
Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions: The Russian army carried out one airstrike with two aerial guided bombs and 52 shellings (including one from a multiple rocket launcher).
Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction: Ukrainian forces repelled one attack; five clashes are ongoing as Russian troops try to advance near Vovchansk and toward Nesterne and Kruhle settlements.
Kupiansk direction: The Russian forces made three attempts to dislodge Ukrainian positions near Pishchane and toward Borivska Andriivka settlements; one fight continues.
Lyman direction: Russians made three attacks on Ukrainian defense forces near Yampil and toward Stavky settlements.
Sloviansk and Kramatorsk directions: No enemy offensive actions.
Kostiantynivka direction: The Russian army launched 11 attacks near Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka, Ivanopillia, and toward the settlements of Berestok, Stepanivka, and Sofiivka; one clash is ongoing.
Pokrovsk direction: Russian troops made 29 attempts to push back Ukrainian forces near the settlements of Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Kotlyne, Udachne, and toward Filiia and Novopavlivka. Ukrainian defense forces hold the line and repelled 28 attacks.
Oleksandrivka direction: Four enemy assaults were repelled. The enemy tries to advance toward the settlements of Ivanivka, Nove Zaporizhzhia, and Radisne. Russians hit Khvyli village with an airstrike.
Huliaipole direction: 11 combat engagements occurred near Huliaipole, Zelene, and toward Varvarivka and Dobropillia settlements, with one of them ongoing. The enemy hit the settlements of Huliaipole, Vozdvyzhivka, Verkhnia Tersa, and Dolynka with airstrikes.
Orikhiv direction: The Russian army attempted twice to break Ukrainian defense near Plavni settlement; one clash is ongoing. The settlements of Zhovta Krucha and Tavriiske were hit by the enemy airstrike.
Prydniprovskyi direction: No enemy attacks recorded.
Russian losses
Russian troops continue to suffer heavy casualties every day of the war against Ukraine. Between January 17 and 18, Russia lost another 830 soldiers.
Ukrainian defense forces also destroyed 33 artillery systems, 845 drones, and 105 vehicles.
Since the start of the full-scale war, Russian losses have exceeded 1.2 million personnel.
