Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 12

Since the beginning of the day, a total of 78 combat engagements have been recorded along the entire frontline, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As the General Staff reported, today, communities of settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including:
- Huta-Studenetska, Kliusy, Bleshniа in the Chernihiv region;
- Bezsalivka, Rohizne, Ryzhivka, Iskryskivshchyna, Ulanove, Malushyne, Budky, Chernatske in the Sumy region.
Situation on the fronts
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out 61 shelling attacks, including two using multiple launch rocket systems. Since the start of the day, the enemy has not conducted any offensive actions there.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the Defense Forces repelled four enemy attacks toward the settlements of Kruhle, Ternova, Obukhivka, and in the area of Prylipka. One combat engagement is currently ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy attempted to advance toward Petropavlivka and Kurylivka.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army carried out six attacks on Ukrainian positions in the area of Novoselivka and toward the settlements of Lyman, Stavky, and Drobysheve. One engagement is ongoing.
In the Sloviansk direction, Russian forces attempted to advance on Ukrainian positions in the area of Sviato-Pokrovske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy made 13 attempts to break into Ukrainian defenses near the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Ivanopillia, Rusyn Yar, and toward Sofiivka. Fighting is ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian forces have made 21 attempts to push Ukrainian forces from their positions near the settlements of Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and toward Kucheriv Yar. The Defense Forces are holding the line and have already repelled 17 attacks.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven enemy assault actions. The enemy is trying to advance in the area of the settlement of Zlahoda and toward Nove Zaporizhzhia; one engagement is ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, 24 combat engagements took place in the areas of Huliaipole and toward Olenokostiantynivka and Varvarivka. Fighting continues in some locations. Airstrikes with guided aerial bombs hit Verkhniа Tersa, Barvinivka, and Liubytske.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
Over the past day, 219 combat engagements were recorded along the entire frontline, the highest number in the Pokrovsk direction.
