Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 4

Over the past day, January 3, there were 211 combat engagements along the front line. Russian forces were most active on the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, the enemy carried out one missile strike and 67 air strikes yesterday, using one missile and dropping 174 guided aerial bombs. In addition, Russian forces conducted 2,702 shelling attacks, including 45 from multiple launch rocket systems, and deployed 4,812 kamikaze drones.
Air strikes were reported in the settlements of Zaliznychne, Sviatopetrivka, Staroukrainka, Huliaipole, Varvarivka, Rizdvianka, and Bilohiria in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Over the past day, Ukrainian aircraft, missile forces, and artillery struck three enemy concentration areas.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out 72 shelling attacks on settlements and Ukrainian positions over the past day.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defensive positions 19 times near Vovchansk, Starytsia, Prylipky, and toward Izbytske.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched 14 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Synkivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, and toward Kupiansk, Petropavlivka, Hlushkivka, Bohuslavka, Kucherivka, and Kurylivka.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces carried out 22 attacks, attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses near Novoselivka, Myrne, Zarichne, Yampil, and toward Olhivka, Ozerne, Drobyshcheve, and Stavky.
In the Sloviansk direction, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled four enemy offensive actions near Dronivka and toward Zakitne and Nykyforivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy did not conduct any offensive operations over the past day.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces carried out 18 attacks near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Kleban-Byk, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Sofiivka, and toward Ivanopillia, Berestok, and Stepanivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 40 enemy assault actions near Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Kotlyne, Udachne, Zatyshok, Filiia, and toward Bilytske, Serhiivka, and Kucheriv Yar.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy carried out 21 attacks near Yalta, Vorone, Vyshneve, Solodke, Zlahoda, Rybne, and toward Sosnivka and Andriivka-Klevtsove.
In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 36 enemy attempts to advance near Huliaipole, Uspenivka, Dorozhnianka, and toward Dobropillia and Zelene.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions twice near Stepove and Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian units repelled two Russian attacks toward the Antonivskyi Bridge.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive group formations were detected.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost approximately 1,211,530 troops.
Russian losses over the past day amounted to 900 personnel. Ukrainian forces also destroyed two tanks, 12 artillery systems, one air defense system, 278 UAVs, and 88 units of enemy automotive equipment.
