Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 3

Over the past day, January 2, 116 combat engagements were recorded along the front line. Russian forces attacked on almost all directions, with the heaviest fighting reported on the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, over the past day the enemy carried out one missile strike on the positions of Ukrainian forces and populated areas, using two missiles, as well as 57 airstrikes involving 153 guided aerial bombs.
A total of 6,358 kamikaze drone strikes were recorded, while the enemy also conducted 3,223 shelling attacks.
The aggressor carried out airstrikes, in particular, on areas near the settlements of Kolomiitsi in the Dnipropetrovsk region; Zaliznychne, Verkhniа Tersa, Huliaipole, Varvarivka, Rizdvianka, Dolynka, Novoandriivka and Mahdalynivka in the Zaporizhzhia region; and Mykolaivka in the Kherson region.
Over the past day, aviation, missile forces and artillery of the Defense Forces struck four areas of enemy personnel concentration and two other important enemy targets.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out three airstrikes over the past day, using four guided aerial bombs, and conducted 77 shelling attacks, including one involving a multiple launch rocket system.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy attempted six times to breach the defensive lines of Ukrainian forces near the settlements of Vovchansk, Hrabovske, Starytsia, Prylipka and toward Izbytske.
In the Kupiansk direction, two enemy attacks were recorded yesterday. Ukrainian defenders repelled assault actions near Petropavlivka and toward Kurylivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out nine attacks, attempting to break into Ukrainian defenses near the settlements of Drobysheve, Lyman, Zarichne, Stavky, Torske and Yampil.
In the Sloviansk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped five attempts by occupying forces to advance near Siversk, Zakitne and Pereizne over the past day.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy conducted one attack near Minkivka and was repelled.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy launched 14 attacks near the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Kleban-Byk, Mykolaipillia and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 26 enemy assault actions near the settlements of Nove Shakhove, Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Molodetske, Udachne, Filiia, Dachne and toward Novopavlivka.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy carried out 10 attacks over the past day near the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Oleksandrohrad, Vyshneve, Zlahoda and Rybne.
In the Huliaipole direction, 20 attacks by occupying forces were recorded near Huliaipole and toward Dobropillia and Zelene.
In the Orikhiv direction, the invader attacked positions of Ukrainian units three times near Plavni and Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian units repelled four enemy attacks.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive groupings being formed were detected.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale invasion Russia has lost approximately 1,210,630 troops.
Over the past day alone, Russian losses amounted to 750 personnel.
Ukrainian forces also destroyed three tanks, four armored combat vehicles, 24 artillery systems, one multiple launch rocket system, 539 unmanned aerial vehicles and 101 units of enemy automotive equipment.
