Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 2

Throughout Friday, January 2, 45 combat engagements took place along the frontline. The Pokrovsk direction remains the hottest, with Russian forces launching 14 assaults there, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Russian army continues to strike border settlements. In particular, areas of the settlements of Budky, Znob-Trubchevska, and Bezsalivka in the Sumy region were hit by enemy artillery shelling. The enemy also carried out an airstrike on Iskryskivshchyna.
Situation on the fronts
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Russia carried out two airstrikes, dropping two aerial bombs, and shelled the positions of the Defense Forces and populated areas 37 times.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Russian forces attacked twice near Vovchansk and toward Izbytske. The enemy also carried out a missile strike on civilian facilities in the city of Kharkiv.
In the Kupiansk direction, one combat engagement is currently ongoing near Petropavlivka.
In the Lyman direction, no enemy offensive actions were recorded.
In the Sloviansk direction, the enemy carried out two attacks in the areas of Zakitne and Pereizne.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russian troops launched one unsuccessful attack near Minkivka.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the Russian army launched nine attacks in the areas surrounding the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Kleban-Byk, Mykolaipillia, and Sofiivka. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, 14 enemy assaults were recorded today in the areas of the settlements of Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Molodetske, Udachne, Filiia, and toward Novopavlivka. Four combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the Defense Forces repelled four enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Vyshneve, Zlahoda, and Rybne. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, nine combat engagements were recorded near Huliaipole and toward Dobropillia and Zelene. Six battles are still ongoing. In addition, enemy aviation struck the settlements of Zaliznychne, Verkhnia Tersa, and Huliaipole.
In the Orikhiv direction, two combat engagements took place near Plavni and Prymorske. Russian forces also carried out an airstrike on Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Defense Forces repelled one Russian assault near the Antonivskyi Bridge.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has lost approximately 1,209,880 military personnel. In particular, Russian losses over the past day amounted to 910 soldiers.
