Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 1

As of 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 1, 97 combat engagements have taken place along the frontline. The Pokrovsk direction remains the most intense. Russian forces have carried out 23 attacks since the start of the day, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russia launched one missile strike and carried out 30 airstrikes using 92 guided aerial bombs against the positions of Ukrainian defenders and populated areas. The Russian army also used 4,158 kamikaze drones and conducted 2,674 shelling attacks.
Situation on the fronts
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out one airstrike, dropping one guided aerial bomb, and shelled the positions of the Defense Forces and populated areas 69 times.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attacks near the settlements of Vovchansk and Starytsia.
No Russian offensive actions were recorded in the Kupiansk direction.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out 15 attacks near the settlements of Novovodiane, Myrne, Kolodiazi, Zarichne, Novoiehorivka, Novoselivka, and Yampil. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Sloviansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks near the settlements of Siversk and Sakko i Vantsetti.
No offensive actions were recorded in the Kramatorsk direction since the start of the day.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces carried out 14 attacks near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Rusyn Yar, Yablunivka, Shcherbynivka, and toward the settlement of Torske.
In the Pokrovsk direction, 23 combat engagements took place over the past day near the settlements of Nove Shakhove, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and toward Novopavlivka. Fighting is still ongoing in one location.
Since the start of the day in this direction, the Defense Forces have neutralized 58 enemy soldiers, including 46 killed. They destroyed 35 drones, nine vehicles, two artillery systems, three UAV control antennas, and one unmanned ground vehicle. In addition, two vehicles, another unmanned ground vehicle, a multiple launch rocket system, and seven enemy personnel shelters were damaged.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian forces repelled ten enemy attacks near the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Oleksandrohrad, Vorone, Verbove, Vyshneve, and Rybne. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, 14 combat engagements took place near the settlements of Solodke, Huliaipole, and toward Zelene.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces attacked twice toward Prymorske. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Prydniprovskyy direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian attacks toward the Antonivskyi Bridge.
Russia’s losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost approximately 1,208,970 troops. Over the past day alone, Russian losses amounted to 1,060 personnel.
