Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 28

As of 4:00 PM Kyiv time on December 28, 103 combat engagements have been recorded across the front since the start of the day, with the fiercest fighting concentrated in the Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Kostiantynivka directions, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, 15 shellings were reported. In Chernihiv and Sumy regions, Russian artillery targeted populated areas, including Bleshnia, Ulanove, Ryzhivka, Bila Bereza, and Iskryskivshchyna.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Russian units attacked seven times near Starytsia, Prylipka, and in the direction of Hryhorivka and Izbytske, with two combat engagements ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled an attack near Mala Shapkivka.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched 13 attacks near Novoselivka, Zarichne, Myrne, Lyman, Zakitne, Druzheliubivka, Ozerne, and Drobysheve. Eight attacks were repelled, while five combat engagements are ongoing.
In the Sloviansk direction, the enemy attacked the Serebrianka area three times.
In the Kramatorsk direction, shelling was reported near Minkivka.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces attacked Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Yablunivka, Kleban-Byk, Sofiivka, Stepanivka, and Berestka 18 times, with five combat engagements ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy conducted 34 strikes on Chervonyi Lyman, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and in the directions of Novopavlivka, Nove Shakhove, Rodynske, and Serhiivka, with nine combat engagements ongoing.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Russian forces attacked 11 times near Yalta, Vyshneve, Rybne, Khoroshe, Nove Zaporizhzhia, and Ivanivka, with two battles ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, eight Russian attacks were repelled, while four continue in the areas of Huliaipole, Solodke, Dorozhnianka, and Bilohiria.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled five attacks near Shcherbaky, Mala Tokmachka, Stepove, and in the direction of Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, there were no combat engagements reported.
Fighting has intensified across most frontlines in recent days, with the heaviest clashes occurring in the Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Kostiantynivka directions, where Russian forces are attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses.
Previous attacks have not produced strategic results, and Ukrainian forces continue to hold their positions.
Russian losses in the war
As of December 28, Ukrainian defense reports indicate Russian losses reached 1,200 personnel in one day, and 688 enemy drones were destroyed.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian losses have exceeded 1.2 million personnel.
Earlier, the General Staff updated combat maps from the previous day, showing Russian forces attacking on almost all fronts, with the most intense fighting in the Pokrovsk direction.
