Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 23

Over the course of Tuesday, December 23, 110 combat engagements took place along the front line. The Pokrovsk direction remains the hottest, where, as of 22:00 Kyiv time, 29 enemy attacks were recorded, according to a report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.
Over the past day, the Russian army carried out one missile strike and 41 air strikes, using 38 missiles and 105 guided aerial bombs. The Russian forces also launched 5,584 kamikaze drones and conducted 3,210 shelling attacks on populated areas and positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Russia carried out an attack on the positions of Ukrainian defenders. The Russian army carried out an airstrike using four guided aerial bombs and conducted 139 shelling attacks, two of which were with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the area of the settlement of Prylipka and toward Hryhorivka. The defenders repelled three attacks, and one combat engagement is still ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy attacks - toward Petropavlivka, Pishchane, and in the area of Kruhliakyvka.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian forces repelled five attacks in the areas of Novoselivka, Kolodiazi, and Zarichne.
In the Sloviansk direction, the defenders repelled an attempt by the occupiers to advance in the area of Dronivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions today.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the Russian forces stormed the positions of Ukrainian units 16 times near the settlements of Shcherbynivka, Yablunivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Kleban-Byk, Rusyn Yar, and toward Sofiivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy carried out 29 attacks. The Russians attempted to advance near the settlements of Nikanorivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Novoserhiivka, Horiakhove, and Dachne. One battle is still ongoing.
According to preliminary estimates, over the past day, Ukrainian forces eliminated 62 occupiers and wounded 24; destroyed 18 drones, three vehicles, and two artillery systems; and struck one tank, four vehicles, an artillery system, and 11 enemy personnel shelters.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled eight Russian attacks in the areas of Oleksandrohrad, Sosnivka, Pryvilne, and Rybne.
In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian forces repelled 14 enemy attacks near the settlement of Huliaipole and toward Dobropillia, with three combat engagements still ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Defense Forces repelled two Russian attacks in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Stepove.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Russian army carried out two unsuccessful attacks toward the Antonivskyi Bridge.
Enemy losses
Ukrainian defenders continue to inflict significant losses on the enemy in personnel and equipment, while also destroying their offensive potential in rear areas.
From February 24, 2022, to December 23, 2025, estimated Russian losses on the front amounted to approximately 1,199,280 personnel, including 1,420 in the past day.
