Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 21

As of 4:00 PM Kyiv time on December 21, 93 combat engagements had occurred along the front, with the Pokrovsk direction remaining the most active, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Today, enemy artillery struck the communities of Volfyne, Ryzhivka, and Boyaro-Lezhachi in the Sumy region.
Frontline situation
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Russian troops launched one attack today and carried out 49 strikes on Ukrainian positions and settlements, four of which involved multiple rocket launcher systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, 12 combat engagements occurred. The enemy attacked near Vovchansk, Prilipka, Dvorichanske, and toward Izbytske and Obukhivka. Four clashes are ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled six enemy attacks near Kurylivka, Petropavlivka, Pishchane, and Hlushkivka. Four engagements are still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces carried out eight attacks near Druzhliubivka, Stepove, Olhivka, Lyman, Drobysheve, and the area of Zarichne. Five clashes are ongoing.
In the Sloviansk direction, the enemy attacked three times near Yampil and Siversk since the start of the day.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russian army struck twice near Minkivka and Virolubivka.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 14 enemy attempts to breach defenses near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Kleban-Byk, Kostiantynivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Sofiivka and Stepanivka. One engagement continues.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian soldiers made 23 attempts to push Ukrainian forces from positions near Shakhove, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and toward Novyi Shakhove and Novopavlivka. Ukrainian forces have already repelled 15 attacks.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 10 enemy assaults near Oleksandrohrad, Sichneve, Sosnivka, Pryvilne, Rybne, Pershotravneve, and toward Andriivka-Klevtsove and Ivanivka. One engagement is ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy attempted to advance six times near Huliaipole. Two clashes continue.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian forces repelled five attacks near Stepove, Shcherbaky, Mali Shcherbaky, Stepnohirsk, and toward Novoandriivka. One engagement continues.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to approach Ukrainian positions near the Antonivskyi Bridge.
Russian army losses
Russian forces continue to lose personnel and equipment in battles against Ukraine. From December 20 to 21, the enemy lost 1,130 troops. Ukrainian forces also destroyed 11 artillery systems, 68 vehicles, and 116 drones.
Since the start of the full-scale war, the Russian army has lost nearly 1.2 million personnel. If the war continues, this number is expected to be reached in the coming days.
