Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 16

As of 4:00 PM Kyiv time on Tuesday, December 16, there have been 167 combat clashes on the front. Almost a third of them occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces shelled the communities of Mykolaivka in Chernihiv region, and Pryvillia and Rohizne in Sumy region with artillery and mortars.
Situation by directions
Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions: there were 10 combat clashes today. The Russian forces carried out 71 shellings, seven of which involved multiple rocket launchers.
Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction: Ukrainian defenders repelled seven enemy attacks near the settlements of Prylipka, Synelnykove, and in the directions of Izbytske, Obukhivka, and Kolodiazne.
Kupiansk direction: Russian forces attacked Ukrainian units 22 times, attempting to push them back from their positions toward Kupiansk, Petropavlivka, Kucherivka, Pishchane, Novoplatonivka, and Holubivka. Ten combat clashes are still ongoing.
Lyman direction: Russia carried out 22 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the area of Torske and toward the settlements of Stepove, Korovyn Yar, Zarichne, Drobysheve, and Novoselivka. Currently, 13 clashes are ongoing.
Sloviansk direction: Russian troops tried four times to advance on Ukrainian positions near Siversk, Serebrianka, and in the direction of Pazeno. Two combat clashes are still ongoing.
Kramatorsk direction: the Russian army attempted an advance toward Bondarne.
Kostiantynivka direction: there were nine clashes near Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Rusynyi Yar, and toward Sofiivka. Five battles are still ongoing.
Pokrovsk direction: since the beginning of the day, Russian forces attempted 52 assaults on Ukrainian positions near Kotlyne, Udachne, and in the directions of Rivne, Myrnohrad, Rodynske, Hryshyne, Zvirivske, Serhiivka, Novopavlivka, and Filiia. The defense forces hold their positions and have already repelled 41 attacks.
Oleksandrivka direction: the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 19 enemy attacks. The Russian troops are trying to advance near the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Sichneve, Krasnohirsk, Zlahoda, and in the directions of Ivanivka, Iskra, Oleksandrohrad, Verbove, and Pryvilne. One clash is still ongoing.
Huliaipole direction: 25 combat clashes occurred near the settlement of Solodke and in the directions of Varvarivka and Huliaipole. Three clashes are still ongoing.
Orikhiv direction: the enemy made seven attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses near Shcherbaky, Stepove, and in the directions of Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, and Prymorske. Russia also carried out an airstrike near the settlement of Novo-Yakovlivka.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has lost approximately 1,190,620 military personnel. In particular, Russian forces lost 1,150 soldiers over the past day.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed nine tanks, six armored combat vehicles, 67 artillery systems, 442 drones, 177 units of vehicles, a submarine, and one heavy flamethrower system.
