As of December 16, Russia lost 1,150 personnel on the front lines in a single day. The Defense Forces of Ukraine also sank a Russian submarine and destroyed many drones, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to December 16, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • Personnel - approximately 1,190,620 (+1,150)
  • Tanks - 11,421 (+9)
  • Troop-carrying AFVs - 23,737 (+6)
  • Artillery systems - 35,172 (+67)
  • MLRS - 1,563 (+1)
  • Anti-aircraft systems - 1,261
  • Aircraft - 432
  • Helicopters - 347
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 91,219 (+442)
  • Cruise missiles - 4,073
  • Warships/boats - 28
  • Submarines - 2 (+1)
  • Vehicles and fuel tanks - 70,182 (+177)
  • Special equipment - 4,026.

Situation on front

According to the latest information from Ukraine's General Staff, 140 combat clashes took place on the front during the day. The largest number of battles - 36 - was traditionally recorded in the Pokrovsk direction.

As for Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian Defense Forces received reinforcements there and are driving out those groups of Russians who managed to sneak into the city as sabotage groups. Russian troops are also being taken prisoner in Pokrovsk.

Another strategic Russian target is Kupiansk. The Ukrainian military is liberating the city very carefully to minimize losses. About 200 Russian soldiers are blocked in Kupiansk.
