As of 4:00 PM Kyiv time on September 20, there have been 79 combat engagements along the front since the start of the day. The highest number of clashes was recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russian shelling

Today, Russian artillery and mortars hit the border regions of Ukraine. Affected settlements included:

  • Bila Bereza, Studenok, Cherkaske, Hirka, Prohres, and Novovasylivka in the Sumy region;
  • Karpovychi, Bleshnia, and Bohdanove in the Chernihiv region.

Frontline situation

In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, there were four enemy attacks. Russian forces carried out four airstrikes, dropping five guided bombs, and launched 115 artillery strikes against Ukrainian positions and settlements, including one using multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, five combat engagements occurred near Vovchansk, Krasne Pershe, and toward Bochkove. Two engagements are ongoing.

In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces unsuccessfully attacked Ukrainian positions near Myrne. Ukrainian defenders advanced up to 200 meters in some areas and inflicted personnel losses on the enemy.

In the Lyman direction, the Russian army carried out seven attacks on Ukrainian positions near Hrekivka, Novomykhailivka, Shandryholove, and toward Novoselivka. Four engagements are ongoing.

In the Siversk direction, the enemy attacked toward Dronivka three times. Ukrainian defenders advanced up to 200 meters in some areas and eliminated enemy personnel through reconnaissance and combat actions.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked near Chasiv Yar.

In the Toretsk direction, Ukrainian defenders advanced up to 300 meters in some areas and inflicted losses on enemy personnel. They repelled eight enemy attempts to breach defenses near Ivanopillya, Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Stepanivka, Rusyn Yar, Poltavka, and Sofiivka. Two engagements continue.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces attempted 23 times to push Ukrainian troops from positions near Volodymyrivka, Nikanorivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Novoekonomichne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Dachne, and toward Kozatske and Novopavlivka. Ukrainian forces repelled 17 of these attacks.

In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders conducted successful reconnaissance and strike operations, advancing up to three kilometers, destroying significant enemy infantry, and capturing prisoners. They stopped six enemy assaults near Filiia, Andriivka-Klevtsove, Sichneve, Maliivka, Komyshuvakha, Novoivanivka, and toward Berezove and Novovasylivske. Six engagements continue.

In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions near Olhivske three times. One engagement is ongoing. The enemy also carried out an airstrike on Bilohiria.

In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack toward Novoandriivka.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy conducted an airstrike on Kozatske and made two unsuccessful attempts to approach Ukrainian positions near the Antonivskyi Bridge.

Russian army losses

Over the past day, from September 19 to 20, Russian forces lost 1,070 soldiers in battles against Ukraine. In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 31 artillery systems, 365 drones, and 124 vehicles.

As of today, September 20, Russian army losses have exceeded 1.1 million personnel, including killed and wounded.
