As of 22:00 Kyiv time on August 17, there were 127 combat engagements on the front over the past day. The highest number of battles was recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, according to the report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Enemy attacks

Today, Russian forces carried out 52 airstrikes, dropping 86 guided aerial bombs. In addition, they used 1,611 kamikaze drones and conducted 3,607 shelling attacks on the positions of our troops and populated areas.

Frontline situation

In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled two enemy assault attempts since the beginning of the day. In addition, the enemy carried out nine airstrikes, dropping 23 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 150 attacks on the positions of our troops and populated areas, seven of which involved multiple rocket launcher systems.

In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy launched three assaults on our units’ positions near Vovchansk and in the direction of the settlement of Khatne, with one battle ongoing.

In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian army conducted offensive actions near the settlements of Zapadne, Kindrashivka, Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and in the direction of Kupiansk. Ukrainian forces repelled five out of nine attacks, and fighting continues.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Defense Forces positions 13 times near Hrekivka, Karpivka, Ridkodub, and Hryhorivka, as well as in the direction of the settlements of Drobysheve, Yampil, and Kolodiazi. Eight clashes are still ongoing.

In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy assaults, where the Russian army tried to advance near Hryhorivka, Fedorivka, and Vyimka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy made three unsuccessful attempts to breach the defense of our forces near the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultyne and Bila Hora.

In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces launched eight assaults on Ukrainian positions near Toretsk, Shcherbynivka, and in the direction of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, and Rusynyi Yar. One clash is still ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the Russian army has attempted to advance on Ukrainian positions 42 times. The enemy attacked near the settlements of Poltavka, Vilne, Nove Shakhove, Zapovidne, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Novoukrainka, Lysivka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Dachne, and in the direction of Volodymyrivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, and Molodetske. In some locations, fighting continues to this day.

“According to preliminary data, in this direction today, 155 Russian soldiers were neutralized, including 109 irreversibly. Ukrainian soldiers also destroyed two artillery systems, five vehicles, six motorcycles, four communication antennas, and 20 drones; four artillery systems, one motorcycle, and six enemy drone control points were damaged,” the report states.

In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attempted 19 times to breach the defense of our forces near the settlements of Tolstyi, Zelenyi Hai, Voskresenka, Oleksandrohrad, Maliivka, and Temyrivka. Seven clashes are still ongoing.

In the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy made four unsuccessful attempts to approach our positions.

In the remaining directions, no significant changes were reported.

Russian army losses

From August 16 to 17, Russian forces lost another 900 soldiers in battles against Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine also destroyed 49 artillery systems and 88 vehicles.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Russian army has already lost over 1 million personnel.
