Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 20

As of 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time on July 20, a total of 122 combat engagements took place along the front line over the past day. The Pokrovsk direction saw the heaviest fighting, according to a report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
Over the past day, Russian forces carried out two missile strikes, launching five missiles, and conducted 53 airstrikes, dropping 71 guided bombs. In addition, they deployed 1,427 kamikaze drones and carried out 4,327 shelling attacks targeting Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.
Frontline situation
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, there were 18 combat clashes with Russian invaders, five of which are still ongoing. The enemy launched nine airstrikes, dropped 12 guided bombs, and carried out 229 artillery shelling attacks.
Today, the enemy launched four attacks in the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, targeting the areas around Vovchansk, Krasne Pershe, Kutkivka, and Starytsia.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces carried out four offensive actions near Kindrashivka, Zelenyi Hai, and toward Kupiansk. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces have already repelled 17 enemy assaults near Karpivka, Kolodiazi, Novyi Myr, Ridkodub, Shandryholove, Torske, and in the direction of Serebrianka. Three engagements are still in progress.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy launched six attacks in the areas of Vyiymka, Verkhniokamianske, Fedorivka, and Hryhorivka. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
Since the beginning of the day, in the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy carried out one attack toward Predtechyne.
In the Toretsk direction, there were eight combat clashes today. The enemy attempted to storm Ukrainian positions near Dyliivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Toretsk, and toward Katerynivka. Two assaults are still in progress.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the start of July 20, the enemy has launched 36 attacks on positions near Poltavka, Udachne, Novoekonomichne, Lysivka, Zvirove, Novopavlivka, Orikhove, Oleksiivka, and toward Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad. Ukrainian defenders have repelled 34 assaults, with two combat engagements still ongoing.
“Today in this direction, according to preliminary data, 209 Russian soldiers were neutralized, of which 130 were irrecoverable losses,” the report states. “In addition, Ukrainian forces destroyed two vehicles, five motorcycles, three artillery pieces, 14 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), three UAV control antennas, and two UAV control points. They also damaged three vehicles, two artillery pieces, and two UAV control antennas belonging to the Russian forces.”
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Yalta, Myrne, Tolstoi, Voskresenka, Maliivka, Zelene Pole, Temyrivka, and Novopil. Three combat clashes are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions but carried out airstrikes on the settlements of Plavni and Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, there was one combat engagement, and the enemy also launched an airstrike with unguided rockets on Odradokamianka.
Russian army losses
Between July 19 and 20, Russian forces lost an additional 1,040 soldiers in battles against Ukraine. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also destroyed 52 artillery systems, 270 drones, and 121 vehicles.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian army's losses have surpassed 1 million personnel.
