Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 8

Since the beginning of the day, the total number of combat engagements along the frontline has reached 86. Ukraine’s Defense Forces continue to repel the advance of Russian troops, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As the General Staff reported, today, communities in the settlements of Khrinivka and Liskivshchyna in the Chernihiv region, Velyka Pysarivka, Kucherivka, Novodmytrivka, Bila Bereza, and Seredyna-Buda in the Sumy region, and Lemishchyne in the Kharkiv region came under fire from enemy artillery and mortars.
Situation by the directions
In the Northern-Slobozhannskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian forces repelled six enemy attacks today. Russian aircraft conducted six airstrikes, dropping 11 guided bombs. In total, the enemy carried out 169 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements, including five using multiple-launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhannskyi direction, the enemy launched five attacks today in the areas of Vovchansk, Ambarne, and Kamianka. One engagement is currently ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops attempted an assault near Zahryzove but were repelled.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian forces launched eight attacks on Ukrainian positions near Novyi Myr, Karpivka, Zelena Dolyna, Torske, and toward Shandryholove. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy attacked twice near Serebrianka and Vyimka. One engagement is still in progress.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy attempted to advance toward Stupochky and Bila Hora. All three attacks were repelled by Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian troops tried to breach Ukrainian defenses near Dyliivka, Toretsk, Yablunivka, and toward Katerynivka and Oleksandro-Kalynove. Three assaults were repelled, and three more are ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces launched 37 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions near Popiv Yar, Poltavka, Myrne, Malynivka, Myroliubivka, Razine, Lysivka, Shevchenko, Zvirrove, Udachne, Muravka, Oleksiivka, Zelenyi Kut, and toward Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka. The Defense Forces have held the line and repelled 28 of these attacks.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 13 enemy assaults, with five more engagements currently underway. Russian troops attempted to advance near Zaporizhzhia, Piddubne, Myrne, Komar, Voskresenka, Shevchenko, Zelene Pole, and Novopil.
In the Huliaipole direction, no enemy offensive actions were recorded.
In the Orikhiv direction, enemy aircraft struck Plavni with unguided air-to-surface missiles. No ground assaults were conducted in this direction.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian forces did not carry out offensive actions but launched airstrikes on the areas of Mykolaivka and Lvove.
Russia's losses in the war
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has lost more than 1.028 million troops. Over the past day, enemy losses amounted to another 1,070 personnel. In particular, the Defense Forces destroyed:
- four armored combat vehicles;
- 41 artillery systems;
- two multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS).
