Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of June 16

Ukrainian troops continue to hold back Russian forces in several directions, including a new Northern-Slobozhanskyi direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the military command, 99 combat engagements have been recorded on the front line since the beginning of the day. Russian forces also attacked communities in border settlements.
Situation by direction
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, 17 combat engagements have occurred since morning, five of which are still ongoing. Additionally, the enemy launched 5 airstrikes, dropping 12 guided bombs, and carried out 125 shelling attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces are repelling an enemy assault near the village of Kamianka.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses three times.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army launched two attacks on Ukrainian positions near the villages of Kopanky and Nadiia.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy assault near Hryhorivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces stopped five enemy attacks near three settlements, with one battle still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out 14 assault operations near five settlements. One engagement is still in progress.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops attempted 32 assaults to dislodge Ukrainian forces. The Defense Forces repelled 25 of them, while seven battles continue.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled 17 enemy assaults, with two attacks still underway.
In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two enemy offensives near the village of Malynivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces launched one attack near Nesterianka and carried out airstrikes on the areas of Kamianske and Mala Tokmachka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian forces repelled an enemy attack near the Antonivskyi Bridge. The Russian army also struck Mykolaivka with unguided air-to-surface missiles.
New direction
Earlier, the General Staff warned that due to the escalation of the situation in the Sumy region, a new direction would appear in the reports - Northern Slobozhanskyi.
At the same time, the Kharkiv direction was renamed South Slobozhanskyi.
